1992, April – The Beginning of Group 92 Mechanical
The economy entered the deep recession of the 1990’s. In a spare bedroom of College Street in Fonthill Ontario and only 25 years old, Stephen Coote decided to take his previous business experience with Penn Mechanical and form Group 92 Mechanical.

1994- Partner, Domenic Iannarelli Joins Group92
Domenic Iannarelli joins the company as a plumbing journeyman. Domenic’s trade acumen and university education in physics would be instrumental in broadening Group 92 Mechanical’s expertise. Domenic would go on to become a partner in the firm.

1999- First Million Dollar Project
Just as Group 92 completed the first project for Newman Bros, Group 92 would complete its first million-dollar project for Newman Bros, an automotive manufacturing plant, Hayes Dana, in St. Mary’s Ontario. This was a major milestone project for the company at the time.

2004- Group 92 Gains Momentum
The company is gaining momentum and crosses another major project milestone with the completion of a New Four Pad arena for the City of St. Catharines.

2006- Senior Partnership
Domenic Iannarelli purchases additional shares to become a Senior Partner in the company.

2008- Group 92 Joins the Green Building Movement
Group 92 Mechanical joins the Green Building Movement, a movement which desires to Lead and accelerate the transformation of the built environment into one that is more sustainable, healthy and green throughout Canada.

At the same time, Group 92 won a bid to aid in the construction of the Brock University ‘The International Building’. Teamed up with Merit Contractors, the two contractors integrated their new Green Building mandate into their project and became leaders in St. Catharine’s, by building one of the two LEED-certified buildings in the city.

2010- Embracing Digitization
The company digitizes the remainder of its operations, from Project Management to full on-screen Takeoff’s and Estimations. The company purchases Quick Pen estimation software, a state of the art program that allows users to utilize on-screen takeoffs of PDF and CAD drawings. Group 92 was one of first in the area to adopt this program.

2013 – Stepping Up
Stephen Coote becomes a member of the Canadian Construction Board of Directors.

2014- Canadian Construction Innovations
Stephen Coote joins the Canadian Construction Innovation council as an Executive Board Member.

2017 – Milestone: 25 Years Strong!

Group 92 proudly celebrates its 25^th year!  A milestone not only for the company but many of the employees who also celebrate their 10^th, 15^th, 20^th and 24^th years with the Group.

1992, June- First Employee/First Project
The first employee of the company was a semi-retired plumber named Ron Winterbottom. The first project of the company was for Newman Bros. Construction and it involved a $ 1,500.00 plumbing installation at Lakeport school in St. Catharines, Ontario.

1995- Entrepreneur of the Year
Stephen Coote, Founder of Group 92, wins the Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year award, for Entrepreneurs under 30. He also receives a Niagara College nomination for the Ontario Premier awards.

2000- Streamlining Accounts
Domenic Iannarelli purchase shares in Group 92. The company purchases Jonas Software to streamline its internal account processes.

2005- Pearson International Airport
With the manufacturing plants in the area shrinking, Group 92 seeks to expand its markets and successfully completed its first project for GTAA; Pearson International Airport. It is also the beginning of over 200 projects that will span from 2005 right up to and including the present day.

2008 – Financial Milestone
Group 92 hits a new milestone, as the company was awarded a 4+ million dollar four-pad arena/community center project.

2009- Group 92’s growth leads to New Headquarters
The company breaks ground on its new office and warehouse facility at 24 Commerce Place. The new facility is planned to house the office staff and provide the necessary space for tools, equipment and prefabrication.  

2011- Kearl Lake Oil Sands
Domenic Iannarelli and four of Group 92’s employees take on the project management contract of a 20-million-dollar mechanical project in the Kearl Lake Oil Sands, Alberta. Stephen receives his MBA from University of Western-Ivey School of Business.

2013– BIM Integration
Group 92 is successful in the major mechanical upgrade of Brock University, Eleanor Misner Pool Facility. This would be the first time the company employs the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for the layout, assembly and Prefabrication of the pool’s mechanical room.

2016 – Joint Venture Partnership
Group 92 enters into its first Joint Venture Partnership with Dordan Mechanical for the Design-Build of the New Meridian Community Center in Pelham. The partnership was developed to increase each company’s geographic foothold along with increased contract capacity.

The joint venture was successful in the bid. Later the same year, the Dordan-Group 92 Mechanical joint venture is successful in the Design-Build of the New West Lincoln Community Center
